It is broadcast on KKUP In Cupertino CA, throughout Europe on Radio Marabu, a 24/7 internet broadcast on Luxotone.com , and now on The Luver, a webcasting station out of Berkeley CA. I began my radio adventures in 1971 on a station called KTAO in Los Gatos CA under the mentorship of the one of the fathers of non commercial radio in America, Lorenzo W. Milam. Lorenzo not only gave me a show but taught me to appreciate many esoteric forms of music. After KTAO was sold in 1974, I began a short run of shows at KUSP in Santa Cruz but was eventually fired after I played too much flamenco music during one particular show and not enough crowd pleasers. In 1978, I began a program at KKUP in Cupertino which broadcasts to the south San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas. At that time I hosted a show of avant garde, jazz, ethnic, punk and other miscellaneous forms not being offered by the station at the time. In 1985 as the international, underground cassette network exploded I focused all my efforts on home produced music in many styles from around the world. I received and played many thousands of tapes during this time and as far as I know, “No Pigeonholes” is the longest running program of home produced music in the world. As CDs started appearing in the mid to late 1990s and a gray area developed between home recordings and small studio productions I decided to expand my focus to include all forms of independent music, not just home produced recordings. The idea was to feature all types of music with an independent attitude, and not act as a music industry pipeline for “making it” in the music business. This show continues to this day.
